„Átélni a történelem tragédiáját” – így jellemezte a firenzei főtér hangulatát Stendhal. A 13. század óta létezik Firenze szívében ez a kissé szabálytalan, L alakú tér, ami központi elhelyezkedése miatt a legfontosabb történelmi eseményeknek, például Savonarola 1498-as kivégzésének is a helyszíne volt. A piazza körül híres épületeket találunk, itt áll a Palazzo Vecchio, a Loggia dei Lanzi és az Uffizi képtár is. A téren sétálva „ismerős” arcok is feltűnhetnek: Michelangelo Dávidja és Ammanati Neptunusz-szobra is a Piazza della Signoria-n áll. A másolatuk legalábbis. 

A Piazza della Signoria a Dóm tér és az Arno folyó között helyezkedik el, Firenze város turisztikai központja. A sétálóutca felől érkezve elsőként a Loggia dei Lanzi árkádjait pillantjuk meg. A sarkon fantasztikus fagyit lehet kapni! Óriási adag! Nem csoda, hogy Kowalski és Marina is leülnek a téren egy kávéra. Hosszú volt a helyszínelés az Uffiziben, Angelo és Diavolo, a két dalmata is leheveredik a trattoria teraszán. A Piazza della Signoria többször is feltűnik a filmben, hol Ruben csapata érkezik ide Botticellit rabolni, hol az olasz híradó hátterében látjuk a teret.

Piazza della Signoria

“To experience the tragedy of history”—this is how Stendhal described the atmosphere of Florence’s main square. The slightly irregular, L-shaped Piazza della Signoria has existed since the 13th century and, due to its central location, has been the site of numerous historic events—most notably the execution of Savonarola in 1498. The square is surrounded by iconic buildings: the Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi, and the Uffizi Gallery all stand here. As you stroll through the piazza, familiar “faces” might appear too—like Michelangelo’s David and Ammanati’s Neptune (at least, their replicas).

Located between the Cathedral Square and the Arno River, Piazza della Signoria is the beating heart of Florence’s tourism scene. Approaching from the pedestrian street, the arcades of the Loggia dei Lanzi are the first thing you’ll see. (And on the corner, you’ll find some of the best gelato in the city—huge portions!) It’s no surprise that Kowalski and Marina sit down for a coffee here. After a long investigation at the Uffizi, even Angelo and Diavolo, the two Dalmatians, are stretched out lazily on the trattoria terrace. The Piazza della Signoria appears several times in the film—sometimes as the scene of Ruben’s team stealing a Botticelli, other times as the recognizable backdrop on an Italian news broadcast.
